Belgian citizens can enjoy a tax benefit (tax reduction of 45% of the donated amount per year). Therefore, include the word 'donation' and personal details (full name, national registry number and address) in an email to filantropie@vliz.be. Companies should also include the company number. We will provide a tax certificate in the first quarter of the year following the donation(s).
Every year, we award Brilliant Marine Research Idea (BMRI) grants with the aim to inspire and support PhD students and young postdocs to implement a brilliant idea in the context of their marine research. The BMRI grants focus on out-of-the-box thinking, developing an additional research topic but always framed within the scientist's current personal marine research field. A Brilliant Marine Research Idea grant is worth €5,000.
